Felicity Marshall

Hello Felicity! How are you right now?

FM: I’m great, thanks. I’m starting to settle into the slower pace of a life in lock down

RIA: Can you share with everyone a bit about who you are and what you do?

FM: I am an illustrator, originally from Portsmouth but now living in London with my dog, Dolly.

RIA: show us your WFH area:

RIA: Top snack?

FM: Rib’n’saucy NikNaks…I’ve rediscovered them since lockdown and they’re the best snack in the world to me right now.

RIA: WFH / Quarantine tips?

FM: Break up your day with activities like walks, phoning friends and set yourself achievable goals for each day, but don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t make those goals. Oh, and eat NikNaks.

RIA: How has the recent quarantine impacted the way you work and have you had to change your working behavior much?

FM: At first (like many people) I found the whole situation very stressful, and I couldn’t really find the focus to be creative. I spent the first 2 weeks watching tv, eating pizza and not really getting out of my sweatpants. Like a lot of self-employed people, I’m used to WFH to an extent, so I found it strange that I went into this weird, sloth like existence. I had to physically and mentally drag myself out of that way of living by forcing myself to exercise, eat right, start drawing, and switch off the news for a bit. Since then I’ve steadily become more productive and I’m enjoying the spare time I have to explore my own ideas. So, at first, the pandemic seemed to cause in me a lack of focus or willingness to be creative, but now I feel like I am more focused and productive than ever before!

RIA: What is keeping you sane at the moment?

FM: Drawing! And my dog Dolly, she keeps me sane.

RIA: (Here is another photo of Dolly because: Duh.

RIA: Podcast recommendations?

FM: I actually don’t have any good or new ones and am on the lookout for new podcasts, so I’ll ask the same question to you! (We would suggest all the Podcasts the other artists have already suggested, and if you guys have any fave’s be sure to send Felicity a DM).

RIA: What can you see from your window?

FM: Some trees and a lamp post.

RIA: Dream client

FM: Not so much a client but a job – I’d love to get into designing/ illustrating book covers. Dream book cover to design – Lolita or The Heart is a Lonely hunter. (We couldn’t agree more!!)

RIA: Show us a WIP and tell us a bit about it.

FM: This is the beginnings of a poster for a short film due to be released later this year:

RIA: What are you doing for your mental health?

FM: exercise, drinking less, calling friends and family, playing with my dog, deleting my Hinge profile!

RIA: Your favourite piece of work / job?
